Steak Houses – Real Meat for Real Carnivores
Last updated -- July 14, 2001

I’ve eaten at the chains, I’ve eaten at the names. The Chains win hand-down when it comes to steakhouses in town and the local newspapers back me most of the time.

It’s a wonderful place for a perfectly grilled steak at any time, but if you can sneak in during afternoon hours to get the lunch menu prices, you’re eating well and saving money to boot. If the power brokers are in town during a trade show convention, you’ll likely find some of them here.

Delmonico Steakhouse, The Venetian--

First time I ate a Delmonico was at the bar and there was just something lacking between the atmosphere (smokey) and the presentation. The second time around, I managed to get seated in the formal dining area. What a difference a couple of yards make.

Across the Strip from the Monte Carlo and relatively new in town, Smith & Wollensky’s impresses the locals with its steaks, pork shank, and crab cakes.

It’s always a great dinner on someone else’s dime, so when I was introduced to The Palm as thanks for advertising, I fell madly in love. Huge portions, done exactly right, elite service, and Key Lime Pie to die for to end the meal if you still have room. Surf & Turf isn’t a bad way to go here, but bring your charge card because it’s not cheap, at least $100 a head depending on how heavily you’re drinking during the meal.
