Signature Dining
Last updated November 4, 2000
Signature dining brings together a well-renowned chef and might add a location incorporating some unique features. Typically, the menu has lots of fancy words like "reduction," which translated means "should taste good." Many signature restaurants in Las Vegas have come up with the boom of new construction in the late 90s, but some of the pretty names have fallen short of expectations. Weve heard the Rio has at least one restaurant that offers a fine dining experience and the Bellagio has some spots we haven't poked around in yet.
Aureole Mandalay Bay
Built around a four-story wine "tower" that waiters rappel up and down to get bottles from, Aureole is spoken of in very reverent and hushed tones. Have seen Al Roker and the Smothers Brothers both pimping the place for what its worth, but the locals have placed it on their favorite list as well.
Gatsbys MGM Grand Hotel
Its a small quiet dining room, almost understated with all the other glitz in the MGM, with impeccable service and fine cuisine ranging from Kobe Beef to Pan Seared Tuna. Expect the white tablecloths to cost you, but its worth the visit.
Warner Bros. Studio 16 (Signature Cuisine) - The Venetian
Added: 11/16/2000
Towards the front of the Casino on the Grand Shops level or whatever they call it, Warner Brothers Studio 16 is a smooth mixture of mock sound stages from WB movies, including Casablana and Batman, with creative cuisine. The more mundane things, like burgers and flatbread pizza, also pass inspection if you're not up to the more daring combinations of elements. About the only disappointment was the Banana's Foster wrapped in filo dough, but que sera. Bring your wallet, as some of the entrees are priced for expense account dining.
