Buffets
Last updated -July 14, 2001

The cheap buffet is a Vegas tradition from cheap hotels to mega-Resorts. Every casino/hotel has one, but what a visitor gains in affordability (i.e. cheap food), he loses in quality. After having a very bad experience with shrimp at one of the upper-name hotel buffets, I swore off of the gluttony, preferring quality to quantity. You'l find quality here.

One buffet not listed here but raved about by many different sources is the Rio’s, recommended by no less of a Vegas hound than Cameron Gray, former producer of the G. Gordon Liddy Show. It's on the visit list.

I confess I am spoiled by the luxury and leisure of the Sunday champagne brunch, preferably being able to sit back with a newspaper and eat and drink to my heart's content with no greater decision than trying to figure out how much dessert I can pile onto a plate without looking too shabby.

Brown Derby – MGM Grand Hotel – Sunday Champagne Brunch
Last Checked 11/12/2000

Apparently, Penn & Teller eat at the Brown Derby steakhouse several times a week when they’re working over at the MGM Grand. WHO CARES? It’s the Sunday champagne buffet that makes the Brown Derby worth visiting, including shrimp, sushi, and a yummy dessert selection. Reservations are nearly mandatory unless you're very lucky. You'll be paying $20/head if you get in before 10 AM; $30 after 10 AM, so you have to respect the economic Darwinism.

It’s new, it’s clean, it has all kinds of little nooks and crannies to break up the normal monotony of the typical Vegas Buffet Dining Hall experience. Quality food in such variety that you won’t find along any strip buffet, fresh bread, ah, ma cheri, ah. Plus they do a Banana’s Foster in the dessert section. As you'd imagine, sausage, cheese, and quiche are in the zone here.   If they'd only serve the Banana's Foster as a breakfast item...

Zeffirino (Buffet), The Venetian-- Sunday Champaigne Brunch

Best known for its presentation of seafood, Zeffirino's does a $50ish/head Sunday brunch worth trying for both the huge presenations of shrimp, lobster, and fish and the overloaded Italian dessert section. The service will spoil you.
