Las Vegas has become one of the great dining centers of the world, but not every restaurant in town is a good one just because the name on the front door happens to be a Food Channel personality. This directory is for people who like to dine. Im not looking an average dining experience, but places where Ive had GREAT food and good service.
If youre reading this before youve hit the ground in Los Wages, youre my kind of person because youre trying to plan ahead. Your clients, customers, vendors, whatever you want to call them, deserve to go to a nice place for dinner. Be a good sales person, be a good team leader, plan to go to someplace great at least once while you are in town and take some people along to enjoy the experience. Make reservations in advance and make the evening an event.
Most of these places have my personal endorsement because Ive been there more than once, like the food, like the service, and want to go back again. Your tastes may differ and you may disagree with my selections. I know I wanted to go up to a full 21 restaurants, but could only come up with 18 great ones because I couldnt bring myself to put several names on here. After my next trips to Vegas, I expect to add a few more names and maybe peel out one or two, with more deleted over time as newer, better choices are rotated in.
There are a few establishments on here that I havent been personally visited, but I feel comfortably enough from what Ive heard from third parties and the local press to put them up here without hesitation.
One of the restaurants resides at 3900 Paradise Road, the location of a
restaurant "mall" that also has Japanese, Indian, and Moroccan restaurants.
Its sad the area has become so popular because parking spaces fill up quickly on
evenings and weekends.
People are going to yell because some of the restaurants I have listed are members of chains and not "originals." SO WHAT? Some of the chains especially the steak houses -- are out-servicing the noveau snob restaurants with the Big Names on the front. The locals know it and you should too.
Finally: I have two buffets on this version of the list. I think the stock Vegas buffet is not where youre going to find fine dining think slop house, think cattle, think long lines -- but there are two buffets worth visiting if you can find the time.

Added: Commander's Palace
(Signature Cuisine), Delmonico Steakhouse (Steakhouse),
Zeffirino (Buffet)
Commander's Palace (Signature Cuisine), Desert Passage at Aladdin-
Commander's Palace is more appopriately put under "Cajun" or "Creole" than "Signature Cuisine," but the experience is 100% gourmet. I came in on the razor's edge between the switchover on lunch and dinner, so it was not loaded with either people or staff. Still, the service, from the time the matre' d welcomed me until I left, was top-notch and the food was excellent.
Delmonico Steakhouse (Steakhouse), The Venetian--
First time I ate a Delmonico was at the bar and there was just something lacking between the atmosphere (smokey) and the presentation. The second time around, I managed to get seated in the formal dining area. What a difference.
Zeffirino (Buffet), The Venetian--
Best known for its presentation of seafood, Zeffirino's does a $50ish/head Sunday brunch worth trying for both the huge presenation of shrimp, lobster, and fish and the overloaded Italian dessert section. And yes, the service will spoil you.

Added: Osaka (Asian), Warner Bros. Studio 16 (Signature Cuisine)
Osaka (Asian), Sahara Avenue-
Osaka is off the beaten path, er Strip and only a stone's throw away from the best Italian restaurant in Vegas. You have to get onto Sahara west-bound, cross over I-15, then truck past Valley View Road before it appears on the left-hand side. Our sources tell us the extra change in cab money is worth the trip out for sushi at the strip-mall establishment.
Warner Bros. Studio 16 (Signature Cuisine) - The Venetian
Towards the front of the Casino on the Grand Shops level or whatever they call it, Warner Brothers Studio 16 is a smooth mixture of mock sound stages from WB movies, including Casablana and Batman, with creative cuisine. The more mundane things, like burgers and flatbread pizza, also pass inspection if you're not up to the more daring combinations of elements.
Dropped: Yolimbos Brazilian Steakhouse (Steakhouses)
Yolimbo's service was a grave disappointment this time around. We went in on Saturday evening, November 11, to find the place overwhelmed with customers, including an overly friendly birthday party with a couple of bottles of champagne and a wedding reception. We had a party of three people and all we asked for was the stock dinner grill along with drinks, nothing fancy, but were were constantly getting passed over. Even the waiter apologized as we hurriedly left.
